The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) announced that it is accepting grant applications for the development of alternative test methods in toxicology. These grants are available in two areas: (1) The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants include opportunities for funding for the development of alternative methods and elements of alternative testing strategies, including in silico and in vitro tools. The next application deadline is September 5, 2015 and more information is available here. (2) Additional support is available via Phase IIB awards to current SBIR/STTR Phase II grantees to further validation and commercialization of alternative test methods, including stand-alone replacements or components of a weight-of-evidence testing approach. Funding will be offered in 2015, 2016, and 2017. Those who do not currently qualify may be eligible for funding in the latter years. This year’s letters of intent are due October 17, 2015, and more information is available here.
